The Orion Series
"The Orion Series"
Consists of a series of photographs and a video compilation demonstrating my progress all centered around the theme of constellations as it relates to my identity. As a Florida girl, I have my fair share of freckles and blemishes from the sun, many of which are arranged in a constellation-like pattern. One particular collection, the three large freckles on my right shoulder to me, have always reminded me of Orion's Belt. That is the constellation that I always look for and find first when I look up at the stars at night. Three also happens to be my favorite number. I appreciate it for it's harmony and balance- qualities that I find appealing. Because of the "connection" I felt with the constellation, "Orion the Hunter" and my eagerness to work with lights and body paint, it didn't take me long to come up with my idea. I drew everything out in my sketches and made several trips to many different stores trying to find suitable material (I borrowed a lot from the art room). After weeks of planning, sketching, creating, scheduling a photo shoot, "hiring" (not really) a model, researching, executing a body paint session, and a more than 6-hour long photo and video editing session, I am happy to say that I am absolutely in love with the finished product. I hope you will be too.
